Bar

The Duke of Cumberland is a big, friendly pub, right in the heart of Whitstable, a few seconds from the beach.

A Grade II listed building, there has been an inn on this site for more than 300 years.  Known as the Noah’s Ark until 1747, Landlord Robert Chandler renamed it Duke William in honour of the Duke of Cumberland who, a year earlier, hadcrushed the Scottish rebellion at Culloden.

In 1748 it became The Duke of Cumberland and was used as the headquarters for the oyster and dredger men.  Fire swept through the building in 1866 and it was rebuilt in 1878 before being bought by Shepherd Neame.

Today we're a restaurant, hotel and bar offering great ales, tasty food, quality live music and good company.

Our simple, delicious bar menu is served Monday to Saturday from midday til 3pm.

Saltmarsh

Salt Marsh
Downstairs at the end of the courtyard, with a separate entrance opposite the Horsebridge is our restaurant, Salt Marsh.

After moving from it's original location in Oxford Street, having opened in 2008, Salt Marsh continues to cook hearty, good value, Mediterranean style food from The Duke's downstairs kitchen. Naturally, we use fresh produce from quality local suppliers, keeping the cooking simple and letting good food speak for itself. Salt Marsh food is made for sharing - whether you're celebrating with a large group or it's just the two of you.
During the week (tuesday - thursday) we serve food from our upstairs kitchen, in the main bar of The Duke. It's Salt Marsh food cooked by the same chefs and offers you night of warm, relaxed dining, in a slightly different setting.

A three course meal including coffee costs £25.00
A nice selection of wines available from £14 - £17 a bottle
